The Business Side of Art - a mess
After posting my studio pictures my house appears to be fairly organized. And I suppose it is. Except for 1 room - my office. It’s a huge mess and in need of serious organizing. Last March I moved all of the business stuff out of my studio and into my office upstairs. Unfortunately I never organized anything. But with my solo show approaching I need to get organized so I don’t miss any deadlines.
So I have a goal - get this mess cleaned up by the end of the weekend.
Here’s what it looks like this morning. First picture (looking in the doorway) is a pile of things I’ve cleaned out of the studio that I want to get listed on ebay. Maybe not so bad to have a pile like this but 1) it’s right inside my front door for everyone to see and 2) it’s been like this for 6+ months.
The desk for dealing with household bills and misc and my computer. Piles of paper every where, sigh… The quilt on the wall above the desks is Chairs #1, it was made in 1999.
The window seat is occupied with things that should be put away. The pile of paper all over the floor is the result of a cat. Every day it gets in the window and knocks all the papers onto the floor from the bin of papers to be filed (probably 6-8 months worth of stuff).
The desk for art business. I started cleaning it up a bit last month and it’s better than it was, but I really haven’t organized anything for the business in years and it’s a mess. Hurts my head just to think about it. This quilt is Structures #32 from this year. And the calendar on the wall is still at March of 2005. Hm…

I really have to make major progress on this project today as tomorrow the window is being repaired (huge whole in the glass - yikes!). But I also have 2 sick kids at home today (a day off work - hurray!), so first time to play a game of Risk, which always results in tears, hopefully today will be better.

I didn’t see anything in that office except the gorgeous quilts on the walls.

Love, love, love Structures #32, but they are all wonderful.
Office mess, oh yeah that. I don’t envy you the task. Set up those “keep”, “toss” and “action” boxes, and put on some really great lively music. Have some chocolate to keep you going. Set a timer and do 20 minutes a day until done. Can you tell I read/watch too many “helpful hints”? Hope the kids feel better soon. Jen
