I need a nap

After a LOT of hand sewing of bindings I got all 3 quilts finished by 1pm today. Then I spent many more hours on photography, photoshop, and downloading but my slides are ordered, just a few minutes before midnight (I had until 6am - I’m early!). They will be here on Saturday so I can then fedex them on to Visions on Monday.

I haven’t worked on a deadline like that in years. It’s crazy and definitely to be avoided. I’m not sure why I did that but for some reason I felt compelled to. My general rule is that if I don’t have good appropriate work already finished when a deadline comes near then I don’t enter the show. I don’t believe in making work specifically for a show anymore. It tends to divert me from my true goals if I do this. But I think I turned out some really good work the last few weeks, and I had the quilts designed before I committed to the craziness.

But I can assure you when the Quilt National deadline comes up this fall I will either enter finished work or I won’t enter at all because that was just not the way for me to make art and truly enjoy it.

My kids were awesome and very helpful so this afternoon when I had the photography done we headed to Chuck-E-Cheese to use up a gift certificate. It was great fun playing skee-ball and riding in the monster truck to blow off steam. I was going to sketch while we were there but it was too much fun to play instead. Oh well, the drawing will have to wait until later.

Plans for tomorrow - sleep, eat, and do a bunch of things I’ve put off all week while working in my studio full time.

YAHOO!

Lisa, this big push will soon become a very nostalgic memory…especially if you get into Visions. But any huge exertion in art carries so many intangible rewards down the line, whether you get in or not…thanks for chronicling this for us.

Thanks everyone. It was a huge amount of work and Allison is right - it will have been worth it for plenty of reasons beyond just getting the entry finished.

My slides will be here today, I’m most anxious to see them - I sure hope they turned out good!
