The Contents of My Refrigerator

in Drawings

This weeks challenge on the Everyday Matters Yahoogroup is to draw the contents of our refrigerator. I have a million things I should be doing but this sounded like more fun than most of them so it was the plan for the evening.

I’d like to claim it’s not normally such a jumbled mess but that might not be the truth. Fridge organization never sounds like more fun than the rest of my todo list so it’s not exactly alphabetized. Although I did go shopping today so it’s fuller than normal.

Things I learned doing this drawing:

  • Practice pays off. I couldn’t have done this 2 months ago. It’s not an award winning piece of art but it’s recognizable and I had great fun drawing it. I have no doubt I will do even better another 2 months down the road.
  • I have 4 dozen eggs. Hm – omelette anyone?

I love it. Great details. 4 dozen eggs, huh. Last time I cleaned out my refrigerator I found that I have 4 bottles of mustard! No one at my house even uses mustard! I linked this post from my site. Thanks for sharing.

Now I want to do this everyday matters thing….what a great way to see what’s actually in the fridge…you would notice stuff and throw it out if it’s old.

4 dozen eggs, though? When we moved a little over a year ago, Jim found about 8 bottles of molasses in the cupboard. I rarely use molasses, so whenever a recipe called for it, I figured I didn’t have any because it’s the kind of thing I don’t buy…evidently it was the kind of thing I DO buy….go figure.

This is super! I like all the rectangles, it’s almost quilt-like! There is certainly signs of improvement and confidence, this is wonderful! The fridge challenge is turning out to be more interesting (and revealing) than the medicine cabinet – great fun!

Uh – this is so good I am intimidated. I started this afternoon, but gave up. Should wait till tomorrow morning. Or maybe I should clean out the refrigerator first…

I’m proud of you Lisa. Your drawings are coming along and it’s nice to see that you are keeping up with the practice. Now you’ve inspired me to sign up with the Everyday Matters group. I need to get back into the swing of things.

I thought I was the only one who bought too many eggs “Let’s see, if I’m going to the store, I must need eggs and butter” is my motto. Ha, I only get the half dozen packs though, as if that makes any difference. I still end up throwing some out eventually. Maybe we should take up tempra painting!

Yum, you’ve just done the groceries, what time is dinner?
You have captured the insides of a family fridge beautifully!

Your refrig looks soooo much cleaner than mine. Way to go! Loads of complexity

Thanks all for the great comments.

And I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one that buys too much of something. For me the eggs come once a week with the milk man and I forgot to cancel my order again this morning so I just got another dozen. I’m definitely making a ton of quiche this weekend and freezing it for later.

So did you open the door, close the door and draw. Then open again and draw again? Or did you sit in the middle of the kitchen floor with the door wide open and just draw draw draw? How many times did my mother say, “Don’t just stand there with the door open?” How many times have I said that myself?!
