Structures #54

Here’s another piece working with organic lines and the figure-ground relationship (see my posts on Structures #53 and Structures #52 for more information about my goals with these quilts). Again, apologies for the less than ideal photography. My studio lacks good lighting.

This is Structures #54 and it’s about 7 feet square and is also just a quilt top awaiting quilting. Working with a softer palette is something I often do and I was pleased with the results.

Thanks to everyone for the supportive and positive comments about this new direction. Brenda asked me about my quilting - I’ll try to answer that with in the next few weeks in another post.

I really like the softer palette. Especially with the contrasting vertical lines on the individual squares.

Have you ever thought of writing a quilting book? I think your quilts would also make a lovely book or notecards or postcards. Sorry for the “marketing” post, it’s what I do at work, so I guess my mind is always “there.” Still, I just love your stuff both from a quilting point of view as well as pure visual standpoint.

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog–I decided to check out your work, and I really like it. Nice and clean and the color palette is very subtle. I am trying to tone down the wild colors in my quilts, also, although I still love them. But my watercolor paintings are much more subdued, and I love them too.
