Back on Track
First, thanks to all of you for the supportive comments about my grandmother. She will be missed but I have some good memories.
It’s been a pretty unsettling month between my 2 week vacation, getting sick the day we got home, going to my grandmothers funeral 2 weeks later and then last week I got sick again (caught a nasty cold while at the funeral). So I have little to report on the art front. I only managed 7 hours in the studio last week. This week is going better, only 2 days into the week and I’m already at 5 1/2 hours.
I set aside the summer to really focus on my artwork and I accomplished quite a bit. But starting next week (I’m fudging the official start of fall coming this thursday) I’m going to get back to work on the business side of my art in addition to keeping up with 20 hours a week in my studio. I’m going to work on my business goals this weekend and will post my thoughts on that topic later next week.
In the meantime, these photos were taken just outside my front door early one morning last week.

I didn’t comment on your last post but my thoughts have been with you. My grandmother is now very sick but I’m glad for the many moments I’ve shared with her. The tradition of quilting, and how it’s passed down from generation to generation (evolving in the process) is one of the wonderful things about the medium.
Do you keep usually keep track of your studio hours? And if so, does it factor in when pricing your work?

Thank you Lori. It’s not fun getting up at 5:30am but clouds like this make it worth it on occassion.
Thanks Shan.
For many years I tracked my studio hours but not on a per-piece basis. I just started tracking my studio hours again a few months ago and this time I am keeping track of how much time I put into each piece. Although I still plan on pricing my work by size, not by time. I find tracking my studio time to be a really great way to keep me motivated. Hitting the 20 hours a week goal is difficult some weeks but it’s a specific measurable goal that I can easily see if I reached or not.

Good to see you’re back and feeling better. I think it’s great that you’re setting such an impressive goal for studio time. Good for you. I’ll be excited to see what becomes of it!

Thanks Charmaine. It feels like forever since I had my act together. It’s good to be back on top of things. And now it’s studio time after a long day at work.

It takes a little time to get back to normal after a bereavement, but I think you are getting there. Those wonderful photos tell me that.

Thank you Margaret. Glad you liked the photos - I haven’t seen a sunrise like this for a few weeks.
