Structures #57

Today I have to pack up the 8 pieces going to Winter Invitational at the Lux Center for the Arts. The show runs November 3 through December 30, 2006 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Included in the group will be this newly finished piece. It was quite difficult to get the reds correct with the digital camera and while this isn’t 100% accurate it’s pretty close. The right panel is a bit more pinkish than I could get here and the far left is a bit more deep wine/burgandy. But not much. Just enough so I’m not completely satisfied with the photos and if the piece doesn’t sell I’ll rephotograph it on a little more art-photography friendly day (ie not bright and sunny).

Wow! I love this – I love the perfect combination of dramatic and subtle. It looks good here, so I suspect it looks fantastic in real life. Wonderful.

  2. Lori Witzel says:

For some reason reminds me of the architecture of fallen leaves. Lovely lovely work.

  3. Patty Altier says:

All I can say is WOW! Simple, but yet complex. I love it!

  4. I’m sure you know that art that is predominantly red has a higher auction value. You’re a smart gal!

  5. Vikki says:

    I love this!

This quilt looks wonderful! I love red. I think it’s really a gift to stay fairly monochromatic, yet to achieve such texture and detail. I have so much to learn!

Like your work. I live in Huntsville, Alabama. I am approx. 3 to 4 hours from Gee’s Bend.

  8. brian says:

By the way, how did you put an image in your header. Sorry, had to ask. Again I like your work.

  9. Lisa, It’s beautiful, I love red and I love how you have put different reds together. Quite a challenge to get them to work!

Thanks everyone! Well Alyson I’m not sure I was aware that red quilts had higher auction values. I’ll have to make more!

Brian, it’s part of my wordpress template to put the image in the header. You can do it on blogger also in your template – you just have to find the right spot for it.

Tracy I think I spent several hours trying to find reds that would work together, I remember I had a whole stack and in the end I only found 3 that worked.

  11. Lisa, I’m in awe. As I’ve said before, I’m a painter and not a quilter, not even a decent seamstress. But I still get mesmerized looking at the detail and trying to figure it out. Might as well forget it. I never will. And still I’m mesmerized. It’s just beautiful.

Thank you Martha. I feel the same way about paintings!

  13. Heather says:

I’m very excited to see your work at the Lux Center! I will have to send you photos.

Heather I’d love to see some photos – I haven’t heard much from the organizers the last few weeks.
