My problem with curtain rods is they are too fat - I want something no wider than 1/4" in there - otherwise I think it looks "puffy". Have you considered making your hanging sleeve in two pieces, with a space in the center that your rod could be accessed for extra support in hanging? Curtain rods could be used for this since it could be supported in the middle of the quilt this way. Curtains don't droop if hung correctly. Just a thought.
