Structures #51
Yesterday I finished the above quilt. Hurray for the blizzard (now called the Holiday Blizzard of 2006 - I guess everything needs a name). I made this quilt top in October 2005 in between 2 weeks of workshops with Nancy Crow.
The quilting is done in contrasting thread colors, which doesn’t show up at all in the detail shot:
Blizzard update - it’s still snowing! I’m not sure what the official count is for snow in Parker but surrounding areas are reporting between 24" and 33". This is my driveway a few hours ago - that stick is a yard stick buried up to 20" but behind it is the real amount about 10" higher.

This is all beautiful and fun (nothing beats a few days off work), until I remember I’m the only one around to shovel. Ugh. After an hour this is how far I got. Maybe I can get my car to be really really skinny and it will fit down the path.

Check out this huge snow drift on the roof. Right above the garage. So do you suppose it will slide off just about the time I finish shoveling?

The sidewalk to my front door looks to be buried under about 4 feet of snow. This will keep away the door to door salespeople.

Unless they plow my street there isn’t much of a chance of me going to work tomorrow either. Darn.
The airport was going to reopen tonight but they are now saying they won’t reopen until friday at noon. Our flight to Arizona doesn’t leave until sunday so hopefully the mess will mostly be cleaned up and the flights back to normal before we have the pleasure of holiday travel.

Love Structures #51! After seeing you on Uncommon Threads and with the dyeing demo’s on your blog, I can really see how you achieved the colors in your quilts. I have an order of dye coming tomorrow from Pro Chemical and Dye so while I am off for the holidays maybe I can get some dyeing done.
Good Greif! What a lot of snow! I can’t imagine how anyone could deal with all that! I have not been outside here (Northeast Ohio) since 7:30 this morning, but it was suppose to be about 50 degrees today with light rain - too warm for this time of year but we will take it! Take care and don’t overdo it shoveling.

I like that the grass picture is under “Blizzard” and the blizzard pictures are under “Structures #51″. :-)
As for snow removal, can you live from your pantry and beg off work until spring?

Patty - good luck with the dyeing! My neighbor came and helped with his snow blower so that was very nice. Although the snow plow deposited huge blocks of ice infront of my house. I’ll have to deal with that in the morning.
Lester - just keeping you on your toes. How about you mail me care packages (and a direct deposit into the bank account might not be a bad idea as I don’t think they’ll go for it for long at work).

Your quilt is beautiful. All that snow looks very Christmassy and there is nothing better than a storm day except two or three storm days. Be careful you don’t stand on your deck in front of the big window and sing loudly. THat big overhang of snow might come down on top of you! That happened to my husband (without the singing part) and it knocked him right to the ground. Luckily he wasn’t hurt but it can be dangerous.

I love the quilt - and it’s somewhat more open and spacious feel than some of your other work.
Be careful moving all the snow. It’s really hard work and so it’s easy to push yourself harder than you can really manage. I thought I had it bad with downed trees, but at least I don’t have to shovel snow!
