Arizona Sizzle
Arizona Sizzle ©1995
I made the above queen sized bedquilt in 1994-1995 for my father. It was my first (and only) commission and was made to match the decor of his new home when he moved to Arizona. My dad was always very supportive of my art work and this quilt ended up a couple of inches too large so he just put his bed up on blocks to make it work. This is what my dad did, he was always able to just make things work.
This morning my father passed away after a year long battle with cancer. I was able to visit him several times over the year and for that I will always be grateful. It is a relief his suffering is over but he will be missed tremendously as he was an amazing person.

Lisa, I’m sorry for your loss.
Lisa, how wonderful to have had someone so close who adjusted a perceived problem because the solution was too elegant to mess with! You are lucky, and I’m sad for your loss.
So sorry to hear you lost your dad. Thanks for sharing the quilt pic, and your memories. We’re all thinking of you…
Sorry for your loss as well.
I am so sorry…
Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. My mother passed away a year ago of cancer. There are always mixed emotions … relieved the suffering is ended and deep grief for the loss of one so loved. Take care of yourself as you grieve. You are in my heart.
Lisa,
I’m sorry to hear about your Dad, but I’m happy that you were able to spend some time with him over the past few months.
Condolances, of course, Lisa. I hope you get that quilt back – a tangible memory of what sounds like a great relationship between you and your dad. It meant a lot ot me to get back the first quilt I made which I presented to my own dad for special reasons. He’d practically worn it out, it certainly wasn’t a piece of art or even a well executed quilt when new, and the unknowing would have tossed it in the trash bin. But I look at the fading and the holes and see a father who was proud and used this quilt every day until he died.
I am so sorry for your loss.
What a lovely, LOVELY quilt!
Hi Lisa,
The quilt is beautiful, moreso knowing who it was for and how he made it fit regardless of the size. To have a parent appreciate and admire us as an adult is priceless. I am so sorry for your loss yet it is good that the suffering has ended.
Take care of yourself.

I’ve been a lurker here but wanted to change that to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. May all of the wonderful memories you have of your father bring you comfort at this time.
I’m so sorry for you loss, Lisa. Your Dad sounds like a wonderful person and it’s lovely that he supported you in your art.
that’s a lovely story. there’s nothing quite like a Dad is there?
Delurking to add my condolences. Beautiful quilt, great dads-are-the-best story.
Lisa,
I too, wanted to add my condolences regarding the recent loss of your dad. As the vision of the quilt unfolded before me this morning, it was hard for me to believe it was fabric. It is no wonder your father was proud of your exquisite work. I hope, too, you will get the piece back as a reminder of the wonderful relationship the two of you shared.

I was looking at this quilt and thinking it looked like a painting. I loved your story and I am so sorry for your loss, Lisa. It somehow has touched something within and I think I will go visit my parents today. What a wonderful tribute. My thoughts are with you.
Lisa, I send my deepest sympathies to you & your family. You will be in my thoughts & prayers in this time of sadness.

I am sorry for your loss, Lisa. Will you be able to have the quilt back?
Lisa,
I send you my condolensces.
So so sorry that your father is no longer with you. You know you have a special person in your life when instead of complaining about the length of the quilt, he made it work…because you made it for him. May all your special memories of your father bring you comfort.
Dear Lisa, I am sorry for your Dad’s being sick and then passing. Losing any parent is hard, and it is clear you two had a special relationship! I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
And this quilt is gorgeous! I agree it looks like a painting,
