Never heard the term bacn either - but I know exactly the emails that the word describes! I was just thinking about that the other day...

With several email accounts, I have them set up similarly depending on the particular account whether personal, artist or my junk email that I'll give to anyone.

Some great ideas. Email control takes so much time.
Thanks, for the ideas.

Very interesting reading, Lisa ... I read it all too. I use more folders than you do - but I break them down differently. I have a lot of clients here and there so I have a big client folder with subfolders for each client. I do what I need to right then, register it in my mind, and file it unless it needs very quick attention.

Also, for the some of the groups I work with (some paid, some not) I have a folder. Lately I have a new scheme that is working well. I have a folder for People's Voice (a magazine I edit) then another folder for In for People's Voice. That way I can still store what I need, but I can differentiate between what needs attention and what has been dealt with. Periodically I go through and move lots over to storage (like after an issue has been published)

For Eudora, folders with subfolders go to the bottom, so I use them less than I would otherwise. But I put one or 2 spaces before names of folders to organize the order that they show up.

That is what I do a little differently.

Lisa, thanks for posting this. I've sent some of my former Get Organized class participants over here to read this post. You seem to use more folders for staging than I do. I haven't quite gotten the hang of that. I tend to use the folders only for storing rather than acting on. Although I do love my "Waiting For" folder (per David Allen). This is stuff that I've already acted on and am just waiting for responses or action from the recipients.

I read the whole thing ;-) and am glad to know I'm not alone in the ohmigodimoverwhelmedwithemail thing. I have more folders than you--but only because I didn't set up subfolders, I think. Right now I have over 300 emails in my inbox, all stuff I need to look at or deal with or file. This is unusual for me, since I used to make sure everything was done by the end of the week. Much of the email is either blog related or has to do with my new job so I'm hoping it won't always be this way. Thanks for the insight on how you work yours--it gives me hope once again!

I put all my email to my art domain in one folder per year (so I have 2007 day job email and 2007 triciamckellar.com email). I find searching much easier for me than sorting. Things I need to take action on stay in my inbox, everything else goes in the year's folder. I used to sort in to folders and found that I just put that off and my inbox got cluttered with things that I wasn't sure how to sort. Just my $.02.... :)
