Complaining

Quote by Maya Angelou:

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.

Excellent article by Christine Kane related to gossiping. There is also a second part.

Not complaining/gossiping for 21 days is a very difficult challenge. Step 1 - I become more and more aware of my words each day.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday - no matter what holiday that might have been. I spent yesterday in my studio designing 3 new pieces for my solo show in February. I determined I’d like to make 9 new pieces for this show between now and Feb 20th.

My solo show will be at the Andrew J. Macky Gallery in Boulder opens February 20th. This is the same place where I had my first solo show 2 years ago and the space is gorgeous. I’ll be exhibiting 12-16 new pieces in my Markings series in 2008.

I removed my last post (about what I want to call my artwork). I don’t feel I’m communicating my thoughts very clearly so instead of trying to explain myself I decided to just remove the post and when my thoughts are clearer I will try again.

    Hi Lisa,

These links are very appreciated. They are helpful … and they feel in alignment with the direction I have vaguely been going in anyway .. this is helpful for more concrete ways. So thanks!

    Hi Lisa,

I spent a Christmas without my kids once and I immersed myself in my studio. I spent a week preparing, getting supplies, making sure the rest of the house was in order. Partly because I was concerned about how I would feel being alone on Christmas. It turned out to be a very happy, productive day. So it has become my ritual for New Year’s Eve and day to just disappear into my fabric and paints. I end up producing enough workable cloth to sustain me for a good part of the new year. This year my friend is having a party….I’m not sure if I want to go!!!!
Happy 2008 to you and good luck with your challenge, as your attitude possibly changes ;-) do you think your work will be affected, maybe different colour choices, etc? ta, Lori

I think I am going to give this a shot too- I have always striven to be on the positive side…lately I have noticed a whole lot of negative creeping into my conversation. Thanks for sharing this goal. Good luck with the 9 new pieces-seems a great goal to aim for.

I have always made it my policy to try and never say anything about someone else I don’t have the guts to say to their face or would feel embarrassed if they heard it. I don’t know if I always succeed but that little voice in my head is always reminding me. LIkewise I usually try to counter gossip or challenge it.

All the best for the New Year Lisa and I look forward to seeing your new work for your exhibit.
