Courage

Bungy Jump Kawarau Bridge New Zealand 2001 Lisa Call

I too have jumped on the Resolution Revolution and picked a single word theme for the year.

My word is courage.

My last post took courage – to be honest about what I feel about my tracking of time in the studio and to take action on it.

My thought in picking this word is that I have some things that I want to deal with this year (revamping my art career high on that list) and it will take courage to see them through. The year is only a week old but already the word has helped me on a number of occasions.

I’ll get back to some art pictures soon. I have a date with my camera and photography wall this weekend.

In the meantime some images that indicate I have more than enough courage to do anything I want if I just put my mind to it. I was 43 meters over the river – just standing on the edge of platform was success. It was one of the most empowering moments of my life.

If I can do that surely I can market my artwork authentically.

Ok, I’m NOT following you there!

I picked Freedom for my word. I’ve been whining a lot lately about wanting to be free from a lot of responsibilities, but in truth, I have to face up to them. I’ve been dangling the word “freedom” like a carrot as I look at the piles of things that weigh me down (like the weight you mentioned in the last post) and keep me from doing what I supposedly really want to do – in the studio and out.. It’s working like reverse psychology. I consider procrastinating some more, then chant, “freedom, freedom, freedom” to remind me that the only way I’ll be free is to dive in and be responsible! I’m already feeling free-er as things get done – even though it’s not giving me any “free” time. Go figure.

what an ambitous thing to do! cool pics lisa!!!
….market your art authentically. i’m not sure i even
understand what that means but then i can’t imagine
you inauthentically marketing your art. sounds like a
different year in mind for you, i’ll be watching ;)

courage … make that all caps and bold with lots of exclamation marks! Lisa, you’ve got it in spades.

  4. GREAT photos. Wow.
I never heard of the “resolution revolution” before today, but I’ve already chosen the idea of “challenge”. I’ve written and sketched and talked alot more than I’ve DONE, over the years. And this year I’m challenging myself to move beyond ideas, to what’s real. There. I said it.

Lisa – you certainly lived up to your resolution theme of courage by jumping off that bridge in NZ ( I have lived half my life in NZ and half here in the States – I know how high that bridge is!). Love your blog.

I don’t have a single word that will be my rally cry this year. I will be using: “Just Do the Work No Matter What”. Whatever imagined awful scenario crosses my mind, I am not going to let it paralyse me into not doing the work I need to do to move my art career ahead. And if an awful thing does eventuate – well I will just keep on doing the work

Good luck and much success in the future to you Lisa and everyone else who commented.

whoo hoo, that is brilliant. I admire your courage to do that, and to confront issues and ideas.

  7. Mimi says:

Wow – as I read this, I sit here wearing your T-shirt. I applaud your courage.

Shelia – freedom is a wonderful word. Good luck with it!

Paula – I tried a bunch of stuff last year and I’m stilling still and thinking about how all those things made me feel. Based on that I’m going to expand the ones that felt good and stop the ones that felt not so good. I do have big plans for the year! Thanks.

    Nellie – funny – thanks.

Melissa great idea to challenge yourself to do more! I hope it goes well.

Fiona – yes – go for it! I jumped the second time I visited this bridge – first time I observed but then was frustrated I didn’t do it so I had to go back a second time about a month later.

Thank jafabrit! I’m excited for what I can do this year.

Thank again for the tshirt purchase Mimi. Maybe you’ll be next off the bridge with that shirt!

  9. One word – yeeeeeiiiiiiikes! Well done!

One word? I think I’ll have to pick FOCUS. :)
