Art Day
I spent about 4 hours in my studio today. That’s the most I’ve spent in a single day in a while – definitely joy! I’ve been working quite a bit of time on my website rewrite that the last few weeks haven’t been as much about art. While 4 hours isn’t a lot for a weekend day, when I’ve been known to do 10 hours, given everything else going on it was a wonderful luxury.
The above textile painting was the only piece completed but I have some more in the works. It’s listed for sale on my small artwork sale page.
I think this week will be the end of making these smaller pieces for a while. I may not have a large studio right now but I’m going to make some larger work anyway. I’ve been getting a bit antsy wanting to make something bigger after making these smaller pieces for the last month.
Time to tackle Structures #100 and see what I can do for that milestone. I’ve already made Structures #101-#105 so about time to get to it.
Home Front
We got our purple Christmas tree decorated today (the one I used for topping out the new addition) and after a trip to visit Cynthia Guajardo, to buy a few more of her ceramic pieces my Christmas shopping is about finished. I’m giving art and handmade gifts as much as possible this year. Except the nephews, 9 year old boys have their limits.
On the construction front, things are getting to the point where I have to make a lot of decisions so it’s starting to take up a lot of my time. Today I picked out a bathtub, it was easy, I was in the plumbers garage, he had 1 to pick from, I said I’d take it. Big corner jetted tub – way more than than I thought I’d get but got a big big discount on it as it was for a project that went bankrupt.
Now I have to pick out faucets, lights, cabinets, etc etc. Walked through the house today making marks with the builder for where I want electrical stuff. My studio will have enough circuits for 6 irons to be on at the same time, each on it’s own circuit and after we talked to electrician the plan is to have a single switch to turn all of those plugs off, so I will always know the irons are off.
Why so many irons? Because eventually I will be teaching in my studio, and I want it set up and ready to go for when that day arrives. Figure it’s cheaper to do it now than retrofit in more electricity later.

Lisa – so good to see you yesterday! Thanks for stopping by and wow – it looks like construction is moving along nicely.
I know I said this yesterday, but take your time with the outlets, vents, registers and lighting. It sounds like you’re doing just that…I only say that because we made some mistakes by not taking into consideration furniture placement etc. Live and learn though.
I would love to outfit my studio for teaching since I get requests for lessons all the time and I don’t have the space.
I love your small works – I hope you don’t stop making them all together – I have my eye on your work and you know how small my home is ;)
Somebody beat me to this one (Lines #9). Bummer!
This is not your usual colours but the brightness of it spoke directly to me. I’ll have to wait my turn to own a small piece of art by you.
And you are right to get all the electrical outlets and such you want in BEFORE they put up the walls. If only I had thought of that when our house was being built.
Cynthia – yes – it was good to see you! Hanging with artists is one of the best ways to spend time. The next day I had them move a furnace vent :)
I won’t making the small works altogether but need to get in more of a balance.
Grace – I have 2 4 inch squares in these same colors just about done also. I’ve done several pieces that were red black and white but have to admit #9 is my favorite so far.
It’s hard to think to the future – I’m hoping I’m getting kinda sorta of close.
I roll some of my quilts and have them at the top of a closet as well. When I put one on the roll I attach a safety pin with a tag that says what quilt it is to the edge. All the tags hang out the end of the roll so I can tell which ones are on which rolls.
Lisa – yes! That is my plan – when I have to space to roll them all out. I managed all the rolls I have now in a space smaller than some of the artwork so it’s maybe less than ideal :)
