The First 10 Textile Paintings in the South African Impressions Project

Making Progress

I’m not sure where the last 2 weeks went but I apparently didn’t write any blog posts. I did spend some time in my studio and have 10 small textile paintings nearing completion for the South African Impressions Project.

Another hour or 2 and these ones will be completed. I intend on making 30 small pieces in this series and plan on completing them by the end of the month. For those that have pre-purchased a piece expect and email from me within 2 weeks for details.

For those that didn’t prepurchase – you still can as I haven’t had the time to change the webpage with the payment info, which is here: South African Impressions. I presold this artwork prior to my trip South Africa at a fairly significant discount.

You can still get the discount if you reserve a piece soon. Because it is taking about a month longer than anticipated I will not be charging shipping to anyone that purchased a piece prior to September.

Mom Update

My mom is now settled into her new apartment and things are going well. This weekend my brother and sister and I will be heading to Kansas to empty her house and get it on the market. My sister and I will be driving a 22′ truck back across Kansas with all her furniture. Woohoo – I can hardly wait. (eek!)

This means there will likely not be another blog update for a few weeks. But once this move is done things should be settling down and getting back to normal around here.

Glad you got some studio time. I am thinking about you and your family at this time. It seems like a ride in the truck would be a great time for some handwork? Perl Cotton? Beading?

  2. It’s great to see the pieces develop. I’m looking forward to picking mine out. :) You created a distinctive color scheme and it’s interesting to see how your style is still very much your style with a different inspiration and geometric construction.

Lisa, The colors are wonderful. I am leaning toward the pieces with the linear fence looking posts – like the one under the presser foot. I have to ask about your set up for the spool of thread. Do you think the thread feeds smoother? Is there someting under the spool that makes it slick so the spool will turn easily? I can see me making something like that this weekend for my 1475.

  4. ha ha – what’s normal? :)

But seriously – love these little pieces – the colors are fabulous!

    love this new work!!

I have driven a 22 ft truck AND a 26 ft Uhaul. (both were full of my belongings) They are not that bad to drive but definitely take their time going up hills.

I packed the freezer at the back (full of boxes of frozen food that could be removed for easier loading and unloading) and ran an extension cord so it could be plugged in at night untill completely unloaded.

    Good luck with your move.

Jaye – I tried to get organized to bring along handwork but didn’t – had a nice chat with my sister to keep me occupied.

Beth and Mary Francies – thank you!

Patty – sorry I didn’t answer sooner – that is a home made little thing to hold the thread upright – I like it better that way than sideways as it’s built in for the 1475. I have a small circle of felt under the thread that keeps it spinning freely.

Louise – funny! We were thinking about the “fridge plugged in in the truck” idea also – but it was cold enough outside to just set the food outside and the fridge went in the truck pretty early.
