A Look Inside My Week

One of the most common question I’m asked is “how do you get so much done while also working a day job?”

This week I answer the question with a daily post of my activities:

Saturday

7:00-7:45am – wake up, answer emails, finish friday’s blog post, finialize todo list for the weekend, consider going back to sleep

7:45am-3:00pmbookkeeping for art biz – okay I didn’t work on it this entire time but I didn’t take many breaks either. I had a lot to sort through – it’s been a busy couple of months for accounting. I also milled about the house, drove my daughter around and thought I should go to yoga but I didn’t.

3:00-6:00pmArt Workshop Prep I’m setting up the website for working in a series and getting the student pages prepared. I’m looking forward to teaching again in January. I’ve been missing it!

6:00-10:00pm – Dinner (chipotle – take out mexican food), watch a movie with my boyfriend, eat more See’s chocolates.

So no studio time today and no yoga. But lots of progress on computer work that needs to be done.

Best part of the day was picking out who I would make end of year donations to. How and Why I Grow and Share Wealth with Every Textile Painting I Sell.

Very happy to have made my first contribution to the Food Bank for New York for the Postcards from New York that I’ve sold.

Hey there Lisa-
I’ve enjoyed reading your almost minute by minute account of your week.
Two things that probably save or give you time that I will most likely not do are eating take out food, and getting up so dang early! (But perhaps I make up for that by staying up til about midnight..?)
This all makes me think that in addition to often having a to-do kind of list, I should make it more a “when I will do” list. That way, I will be able to catch myself if I get distracted. I am learning to discipline myself to get into the basement more and be the artist, but it can be tricky after working outside my home for about 20 years in a studio. I’m inspired by your organization! btw- love the colors of this little postcard #13

Nanci,

I do almost all of my cooking in the summer and fall while my veggie garden is in full swing. Now that it is winter, if I’m not eating out, I just grab something from the freezer made from the organic garden.

And yes – I get up really early :) I can get by with about 5-6 hours of sleep but still aim to get 7-8.

When I make my todo lists I know when I’m going to be doing the tasks – I think that is what you mean by a “when I will do list’ – it definitely helps!
