And the Winner is….

As promised, today I selected the winner of the mini textile painting in celebration of my 5 years of blogging.

Being the geek I am, I used a online random number generator to do the selection based on comment number to my post (with removal of duplications for the folks that posted twice and the addition of folks that commented on facebook).

And the winner is Shirley – aka frazzledsugarplummum.

She selected ACEO #38 and had this to say about it:

The colours and design remind me of the African Landscape that you shared with us on your visit there.

Shirley – as soon as I get your email address I’ll get it in the mail to you.

Thank You

A great big thank you to everyone that commented on my post and for your lovely congratulations on my blogging and the wonderful comments about my artwork.

Home #37 was by far the most popular piece, so as a bonus to my give away I suppose I got some nice marketing research information from it.

You are all a wonderful community and have made the last 5 years a joy to share. Thank you also for all of your supportive comments over the years.

And here’s to 5 more years. Tomorrow I’ll write the next installment of my Removing Obstacles series.

Time Management Workshop

I’ve uploaded the slides from my talk at the Create Denver Expo to the MakeBigArt blog here: Time Management: The Artist and the Internet.

It’s about goals, systems, tools and tips. Much of the content was verbal only, so I’m working on a plan to make the entire workshop available online, so stay tuned for that information also. The makebigart blog is probably the best place to do that.

Dyeing Fabric

I’m super happy to say that I did a tiny bit of dyeing this weekend and am off to the dye studio (aka the laundry room) to rinse out the 12 new yards. The first batch of the season is super exciting.

Okay – honestly – they all are, since I’m never sure how things will turn out.

I do sell some of my hand-dyed fabrics online and the available pieces are here: Lisa Call’s Hand Dyed-Fabric.

I’ve got some more yardage to add and hope to do that by end of the month.

I’m considering cutting some of the pieces into smaller chunks – maybe packets of fat quarters vs. a full yard of a single color. Would that interest anyone?

Markings #2

Markings #2

The second piece in the Markings series now on display in Boulder, Colorado. I took the new series as an opportunity to explore some new color combinations I hadn’t yet used in my Structures series, which tends to be more earth-toney.

Blog Feed Update

Today I made a small step in the process of updating my website. I’ve moved the feed for my blog. For those of you that are subscribed to my blog with a feed reader such as bloglines or google reader the feed URL has changed. The old URL will work but it will be a bit slow as it redirects to the new feedburner feed.

To speed things up you can delete the old feed and then resubscribe using the big orange button in my sidebar. Or by clicking this link here:

Subscribe to my new feed

I made this change because I was always curious how many people were subscribed to my feed. And now this will tell me. At least I think that’s what it will do.

For those of you that have no idea what I’m talking about, this doesn’t effect you so you can ignore this section.

Two More Barns

Old Barn in North Carolina ©2008 Lisa Call

The road to the Bend of Ivy Lodge, where I attended the Great Big Dreams Retreat last weekend, makes a slight curve to go around this old barn. I love these old barns and had to stop and take pictures on my way home. What lines and shapes! Incredible.

This is the front side of the same barn. What a beautiful design.

This barn was on the same road but I couldn’t find a safe (close) place to park my car so took pictures from the road. I suppose this could be a self portrait in the sideview mirror.

My apologies to those of you reading my blog posts from feedblitz. I know the images no longer show up for some people after I turned on hotlink protection. I am able to see the images fine from feedblitz using thunderbird.

Could those of you that can’t see the images leave a comment or send me email with the name of the email program you are using? Could be the web based email readers are the problem and if so I can probably do something to fix that.

Last month I managed to come across Tracy’s Pay it Forward post and jumped right in to be one of 3 recipients of a piece of artwork from Tracy.

In return I agreed to continue the Pay it Forward tradition as follows:

I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.

When you leave your comment, please also do one of two things: leave your post address or e-mail it to me.

I will be making 3 small textile art pieces this weekend for the first 3 people that leave a comment requesting to receive the gift and are willing to continue the Pay it Forward tradition on their blog. My current thought is to make some 6" square pieces along the same lines as the above pieces but that’s just a thought, we’ll see what mode strikes me when I get to the studio.

This has got to be a record – 2 days in a row of blog meme type stuff. Now I can go back to ignoring these things for another year. Although this one I really like – not only will I receive a wonderful piece of art I also get to share my work with others.

Blog administration: I have setup hotlink protection on my blog – this has the potential to break the viewing of images in feed readers. If you read my feed from a feed reader and the past few weeks the images have disappeared please let me know and I’ll see what I can do to fix it for that reader. I fixed google reader this morning.
